One of my clients was WHSmiths. I worked on the initial design for a Christmas brochure that contained products, but the brochure was to have a "coffee table" status, rather than be a catalogue. The theme I chose was the Pantomime, something that only happens at Christmas. Everything featured different aspects of going to the pantomime. I used stage props, and themes throughout. The hierarchy of headings were depicted as Acts, and Stages, as would seen in a play. As well as the brochure and bags, the designs ran throughout the shop interiors, the signage, and the windows. The highlight of this job was to work with the illustrator and director Peter Firmin. The creator of the clangers and bag puss. He drew all the illustrations, and the characters, including the illustrations of the theatre people in silhouettes and also the orchestra. It was a wonderful privilege to work with such a gifted artist.
